OMG!!! A couple weeks ago, I had the PRIVILEGE of meeting and chatting with NONE OTHER than HIP-HOP legend KRS-One. I have been a fan for DECADES, having bought early Boogie Down Productions records when I was still in high school in Santa Cruz. If you are not familiar, WOW WOW WOW! KRS is smart, political, inspiring. Start here with the insanely amazing The Bridge is Over...KRS is a god father of gangsta while still having a foot firmly in the golden era of hip-hop. He personifies the excitement and release and expression of hip-hop, and what a strong tool for change and community the music can be. From being an early pioneer with MCing, spitting and just writing lyrics that actually make you stop and think to starting the Stop The Violence project- he is a true hero.
So with that in mind, I was DYING when he said that he not only had bought a copy of Why Vinyl Matters, but LOVED IT! I swear, it just blows my mind that this man, who I have worshipped since for THIRTY YEARS, bought my book somewhere in the world, liked it and was now sitting in London with me thanking me for writing it. It is these moments when the true connectivity of music is most beautiful.
